The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.
Here is something the candle of the Lord was never meant to do alone. Your own spirit, searched and lit by God, is not left to guess at its standing before Him. The Holy Spirit Himself joins His witness to yours — two testimonies agreeing, not one voice straining to convince itself.
This is why assurance was never meant to rest on your feelings on a given day, on how bright or dim the flame seems to you this morning. It rests on the Spirit's testimony alongside yours, both saying the same thing: you belong to Him. The flame may flicker in your own perception. His witness does not flicker at all.
When your own confidence wavers, remember it was never carrying the weight alone.
