John 1:4-5
In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Long before Proverbs described the candle of the Lord searching the inward parts of man, John reaches back further still — to the Word who was with God and was God, in whom was life, and that life was the light of men. The candle inside you is not self-generated. It is a reflection, however small, of a Light that existed before anything was made.
And that Light did not stay distant. It shone directly into the darkness — not into a world that welcomed it, but into a darkness that could not comprehend it, could not overcome it, and to this day still fights against it. That is precisely where He continues to shine, into hearts as dark as any that resisted Him then. He has not stopped.
The Light that lit your candle is the same Light that refuses to go out in you.
