Proverbs 20:27
The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
Before you drew your first breath of understanding, before you could tell right from wrong or light from dark, God had already done something no one else could do for you — He lit a candle inside you. Solomon does not say the spirit of man is a candle; he says it is the candle of the LORD. It belongs to Him. It was struck by His own hand, kindled with His own breath, and it burns for His purposes and not simply for yours.
That changes how you should hear your own conscience — that quiet, persistent voice inside you that will not stay silent no matter how hard you try to talk over it. It is not merely you, observing yourself. It is the candle of the Lord, searching your inward parts, doing exactly what He lit it to do. You were never given ownership of that flame. You were only entrusted with it.
Stop treating your conscience as background noise today. It is the candle of the Lord, doing precisely what He lit it to do.
