Introduction
“The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly” (Proverbs 20:27). Before you ever understood what conscience was, before you could explain the difference between conviction and mere feeling, God had already lit something inside you that He alone owns.
This thirty-day journey follows that single flame from Genesis to Revelation — from the breath that first lit it, through the searching that exposes what is hidden, through the guarding required to keep it from being quenched or grieved, into the shining it was always meant to do in a dark world, and finally into the day when the candle is no longer needed because the Light it always pointed to has fully come.
Each day begins with a passage of Scripture, worth reading slowly, more than once, before moving into the reflection that follows. Read one day at a time. Let the flame do its own searching before you move on to the next. This is not a study to be finished quickly. It is a candle to be tended, one day, one inward part, at a time.
