Scripture: "For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ." — Romans 8:15-17 (KJV)
A lot of us live like we're still waiting to hear back. Waiting to find out if we measured up, if we did enough, if God finally approves. But Paul doesn't describe adoption as something pending. He says we have received it — past tense, already ours.
That changes the way you pray. A servant petitions, hoping to be noticed. A son already has the Father's attention, the Father's name, the Father's inheritance. You are not lobbying for a place in the family. You were placed there the moment you were joined to Christ, and nothing you do today adds to that or takes from it.
Galatians puts it just as plainly: "Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ" (Galatians 4:7). No more a servant — not slowly becoming one, not qualifying for it someday. Already.
This is the difference between petition faith and possession faith. Petition faith keeps asking God to consider you. Possession faith rests in what's already settled — you are His, He is yours, and the relationship was never up for a vote.
If you've been living like a servant hoping to be promoted to son, hear this today: the adoption papers are already signed. Walk like it.
Prayer: Father, thank You that I am not waiting to become Your child — I already am. Help me live today not as a servant hoping to be noticed, but as a son who already has Your full attention. In Jesus' name, amen.
